ON MY WAY
The ‘On My Way’ project caters to the third through fifth grade student. It reflects the studies conducted by the University of Illinois which focus on the primary regrets of older citizens.

The student selects a regret category revealed by the senior citizen population and takes action to counteract the regret at an early age to avoid the disappointment (regret) at a later age.
The action taken is recorded in a journal and shared with their classmates. For example; senior citizens express regret that they didn’t save money in their youth, nor did they develop more interest in hobbies.
The student learns to begin a savings account, makes regular deposits, and records the transaction in their journal. To develop a hobby the student joins the robotics club or learns to play pickleball.
Both efforts are worthy of the reward of adding a cobblestone to their ‘Building Bridges…… Board’. Each of the eight regrets has a pathway of thirty cobblestones, encouraging a minimum of ten advances per year.

The focus of the project is to observe self-esteem as it grows with each action taken. The student becomes the architect of their own destiny.
